urban home accessories by swigg

Swigg carries a number of home accessories which are definitely in the “fresh and urban” category; the ‘shroom squares above are the tamest of the bunch and feature sporadically placed mushroom and plant life illustrations. They are however revolutionary from an environmental standpoint, as each pillow is created without producing waste. The polyester is produced in a closed loop system (dyes and waste are cycled back into production) while the front is made from organic cotton.

I also like these Swigg Stars, which actually started off Swigg in a big way in 2003 but are pretty tough to find nowadays. These five-pointed pillows are made with vinyl fronts and canvas backs, but what makes them really stand out are the cute vinyl appliqués on both sides. I’d love to get my hands on one of these!

My favorite Swigg products by far are their Critters, which are also hand-silkscreened. I particularly like the way they stitch these dolls together, with a flat “lip” surrounding the animal; I also love the way they sew on a cute contrasting object (a bird, leaf or log) onto the doll. A list of retailers that carry Swigg products is available here; I was only able to track down their critters at nonchalantmom, but you may have better luck than me!

The Swigg Stars are really unique! I happen to have a purple star-shaped cushion too. But it’s in the shape of a starfish and not as pointed as these.
