the art of angela vandenbogaard

Angela Vandenbogaard’s watercolor artwork literally jumps out at you, and a peek into her profile reveals why: she loves using bright, high contrast colors. While this can be misconstrued to be childlike, I find her work to be quite mature and even elegant. Above: The Turning is about the gradual changing of leaves through the seasons and serves as a metaphor for aging and renewal, while Armour D’arbre uses warm and cool colors to represent a man and a woman coming together in love.

Less complex is her Poppies print; not quite something you’d see in real life, yet strangely familiar and serene at all at once, Angela writes that they are heavily simplified yet just as beautiful as the real thing.

I also love Morning Glory and Fruit Tree Trio, which are even more basic in their appeal than Poppies yet just as engaging. A Londoner who is currently studying in Canada, Angela shows a lot of talent and I’d love to see more of work; please support her by stopping by her shop here!
