julie knoblock art

I’m a big fan of “quaint”, which is to say anything that’s strange but in a pleasing way. I think that’s the best way to describe Julie Knoblock’s artwork, which straddles the line between hand-drawn and computer manipulated artwork. The latter characteristic is difficult to pick up on unless you read her product descriptions, as Julie starts off with a sketch and then applies textures digitally. The results are definitely quirky with an almost childlike innocence.

I do like Julie’s use of colors and style, which remind me of something you’d see on America’s historic Route 66. There’s a wonderful dusty backroads feel to her artwork, which is perhaps due to the fact that she lives in Warragul, a rural town east of Melbourne, Australia. Recently featured on Design*Sponge, Julie has gotten quite a few well-deserved visitors lately; I hope you’ll join them by visiting her shop!
