jordanka yaaretz

Jordanka is nicknamed the “Tree Artist”, a name that is appropriate two times over: she is not only known for her stunning tree artwork, but also lives in heavily forested western Canada. Unlike most nature-themed art, Jordanka uses a surreal/modern approach, with a dark colored background and then a brightly contrasting color framing her subject; the overall effect is vibrant, energetic art that positively glows.

The trees themselves seem to dance; twisting and turning, branches often end in cute little curls and are accented with white blossoms and tufts of green. According to Jordanka, these relatively simple design elements appeal to the purity and innocence of childhood; I agree, although the bright-on-dark nature of her work makes me think of hope in the face of adversity, a distinctly adult theme.

Jordanka’s trees are also available in the form of rectangular clay pendants, whose white coloration serves as a nice backdrop and frame for her darker artwork. Note that these pieces are created in collaboration with Anna Leah Designs (who herself carries quite a few other pendants).
