janet bell

Gentle forms and colors abound in Janet Bell’s lovely artwork, with plenty of little details to catch your eye; pleasant both from afar and up close, I like taking my time and examining her pieces. Nearly all of her scenes center around harbors, with varying degrees of activity ranging from sleepy to bustling.

I particularly love her use of colors; although dominated by pastel blues, Janet also works in plenty of reds, yellows, oranges and greens. In one picture, a strip of beach huts sits like a mini carnival on the ocean front; in another, multicolored rowboats sit in the harbor, patiently awaiting their owners. These idyllic scenes are based on Janet’s own childhood memories, specifically of days spent on beaches in Denmark playing amidst white sands, fishing boats and surrounded by little Danish houses.

Janet’s prints are unique in that they’re all square shaped; this actually works quite well with the somewhat distorted/whimsical perspective she employs in her art. Sizes range from about 6″ to 11″ on 250gsm Somerset Velvet (I personally love the texture of this paper) with free shipping anywhere included. More information and a complete gallery of her works is available on her website at JanetBell.co.uk.
