images d’orient

The modern and ancient worlds meet with Images d’Orient, which uses ornate motifs and turns them into rubber coasters, placemats and trivets. Drawing from her own Mediterranean heritage, founder Peggy Dabar has created a beautiful and colorful collection that celebrates the detailed artistry of the past.

Taking a look at the patterns I can’t help but be reminded of arabesque patterns on terrazzo; this is because many of Peggy’s designs are based on 30s and 40s Mediterranean floor tiles and pavement. The idea of using this in a tabletop setting is pure genius; the durability and tactility of rubber coupled with the beautiful patterns and interplay of negative and positive spaces brings a tremendous amount of ambiance to the kitchen and dining room. You can find more information at Images d’Orient’s website or shop at Neiman Marcus.
